NaNoWriMo Week #1

Just like in previous years, I’m going to be doing weekly blog posts during NaNoWriMo. And this year, I’m going to be doing something a little different! Instead of just giving an overview of the week, I’m going to talk about each day individually and then do an overview. Since I haven’t written any words today, I’ll be saving that for next week.

01 November

NaNoWriMo Target: 1,667

Personal Target: 2,000

Words Written: 2,508

Finished the prologue and started on chapter 1. Everything feels good so far.

02 November

NaNoWriMo Target: 3,334

Personal Target: 4,000

Words Written: 4,169

Finished chapter 1. Everything still seems okay.

03 November

NaNoWriMo Target: 5,001

Personal Target: 6,000

Words Written: 5,184

Had a lot of trouble writing today. Only got halfway through chapter 2.

04 November

NaNoWriMo Target: 6,668

Personal Target: 8,000

Words Written: 8,031

Ended up writing 2,847 words because I wanted to get back on track. And I did!

Overview

Overall, I’m off to a pretty good start! I’ve figured out some things I wasn’t sure about, but I’m also starting to reach the point where my outline ends – I only have an outline up to chapter 4. It’s a very rough outline, where I summarize a chapter in one or two sentences, but it’s still helping me.

I’m going to continue with my goal of 2,000 words per day. With that in mind, I ought to reach 10,000 words tonight, after which I’ll do some outlining.

How are your novels going?

  1. It’s my first year using an outline and it’s been really helpful for me! I have about 2/3 of the book outlined by chapter and I’m breaking down the outlines into scenes as I go.

  2. I’m below word goal, with no written outline and not bothering with chapters, but I’m pretty satisfied with everything I’ve written so far. 😊
