I had no idea what to call this when I was done with it, and over a year later, I still don’t. “Mountain Moon” is really the best I can come up with.
I saved a couple of progress images for this one. Here is the sketch, done in my sketchbook:
There was originally an aurora and a person standing at the top of the foreground mountain.
After deciding on a color palette, I blocked in the colors. I believe there are two layers here – one with the sky, moon, and aurora, and one with the mountains & ground.
There was no way I could get the person (which I think was supposed to be an astronaut) to look right, so I removed them. I also removed the aurora, because I couldn’t get that to look right, either.
The sky ended up being pretty boring with nothing in it, so I added the shooting star. I considered making it a supernova, but it didn’t look too good in this particular style.
Including the sketch, this took about 1.5 hours in total.
